EuroMillions record-breaking £167 million lottery!

Are you dreaming of becoming a multi-millionaire? Well now is your chance! EuroMillions has reached a record-breaking jackpot of £167 million!

There were no winners from the Tuesday 24 September draw, therefore you’ll have another chance at winning the jackpot on Friday 27 September.

Because the EuroMillions has reached such a point, if a single person wins the jackpot, it will make them the UK’s biggest ever winner.

What are the rules for EuroMillions?

The lottery is drawn twice a week – on Tuesday and Friday, with ticket sales closing at 7:30 pm on the evening of the draw.

Players choose five numbers between 1 and 50, as well as two lucky stars from 1 to 12. Players can instead opt for a Lucky Dip, to have their numbers chosen for them.

Every entrant into EuroMillions also receives an entry into the UK Millionaire Maker.

EuroMillions started in 2004 and is available to residents in the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Ireland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Austria and Portugal.

Numbers Needed EuroMillions Prize
5 numbers + 2 Lucky Stars Jackpot – £14.3 million to £160.5 million (range of available prizes)
5 numbers + 1 Lucky Star £190,018.80
5 numbers £19,670.00
4 numbers + 2 Lucky Stars £1,924.20

1 number + 2 Lucky Stars £6.30
2 numbers + 1 Lucky Star £5.00
2 numbers £2.70

Overall, the odds of winning any EuroMillions prize is 1 in 13.

What happens if nobody wins the EuroMillions jackpot?

Because EuroMillions has reached its cap, it will therefore stay at the record-breaking £167 for four more draws. If there has been no winner, there will be a ‘Must Be Won’ draw on Tuesday 8 October.

If there is no winner for the ‘Must Be Won’ draw, the jackpot will roll down the prize tier until there is one winner.

Lottery Win Changes Vicky’s Life

After checking her email early in the morning, Vicky shoved her phone in her partner Adam’s face exclaiming she had just had a lottery win! Adam, half-asleep replied, “What, a pound?”; “No, look, look, look!” Vicky shouted showing Adam that she had indeed won Set for Life. So what exactly is Vicky’s big lottery win? £10,000 a month, every month for the next 30 years!

Vicky, an administrative assistant at an accounting firm, was clearly on a lucky streak. After winning £5 on Set for Life earlier that week she decided to purchase some more tickets with her winnings/ one of which was a Lucky Dip for the Set for Life draw drawn on Monday 12th August.

How This Lottery Win Will Change Vicky’s Life

While says that she knows life is going to change, she’s determined to stay grounded. “In a million years, you never think you’ll win big but this is life-changing” she said. Vicky is planning to move her family of four to a larger home, with a bigger yard for her youngest son to “boot his football about”.

Vicky has said she plans to carry on working, but she will invest in a car for herself, so she doesn’t have to take the bus when both her and Adam need the car for work. She also wants to travel, with several city escapes penciled in her diary. First on the list, Budapest!

Unclaimed Lottery Prize – National Lottery Winner Loses Chance at £1m Prize!

Most of us share the dream of being a lottery winner. While winning sounds like a dream, realising you’ve won after it’s too late sounds like a nightmare. This is exactly what happened to one lucky (or unlucky) person who won back in March 2019. So now, the unclaimed lottery prize of £1,000,000 has officially passed its claim period.

According to The National Lottery rules, lottery winners have 180 days from the draw date to claim their prizes. The draw in question is Lotto Draw 2421 drawn on March 6th, meaning that their 180 day period was up September 2nd.

The National Lottery states that the East Riding of the Yorkshire region is home to the winning ticket. The winner matched five numbers plus the bonus ball and the winning numbers were 2, 12, 15, 43, 46, 53 and the bonus ball was 17.

While there are hundreds of big lottery winners every year, dozens of people never claim their prize. For the remainder of September 2019, there are still two large prizes whose claim periods are about to expire. The first must be claimed by Wednesday the 11th and is a £146,939.20 prize from EuroMillions draw 1198. The second is a whopping £1,000,000 EuroMillions prize from draw 1203 which must be claimed by September 29th.

What Happens to Unclaimed Lottery Winners Prizes?

The National Lottery puts every unclaimed lottery prize back into the community via their National Lottery Good Causes program.

This program has helped fund over £40 billion in projects to date. They include the recent upgrade of Wembley Stadium, Social Bite (a not for profit sandwich shop that puts funds into supporting the homeless) and many more.

How to Find Out if You are One of The Unclaimed Lottery Winners?

So you have a bunch of tickets you need to check? You can check a list of every unclaimed lottery prize at The National Lotteries unclaimed prizes page. Unfortunately, this page doesn’t show all unclaimed prizes, only the major ones. Alternatively, you can check historical results on our lottery results page.

Lottery Statistics – It’s all in the numbers.

Winning the Lotto is all about the numbers. And there are probably just as many different ways to choose your numbers as there are dollars to be won. From the weird to the wonderful, many players have their own number choosing method they swear by.

The sentimental player might use their kids’ birthdays to decide on numbers. The superstitious player might look to their horoscope for guidance. And the steadfast player might be happy to just play the same numbers they’ve been playing since they were 16.

But what about the strategic player? The one who uses past results to guide their choices? These players like to use lottery statistics to influence their number selection and try to boost their chances of winning.

When it comes to this style of number selection, there are usually two main factors considered when looking at lottery statistics: frequency and recency. Is the number hot or cold? Was the number just drawn, or is it overdue?

Games of chance are all about the numbers, so let’s take a look at them. These lottery statistics are based on the outcomes of the nearly 400 draws since The National Lottery added ten more balls in 2015.

Lottery Statistics – What’s Hot and What’s Not

Hot Numbers

‘Hot’ numbers are the numbers drawn most frequently. This leads to many lottery players believing that these numbers are luckier than the rest, and so they play them as often as possible. Be wary though, if you are one to play the hot numbers, many other players might be too. So, depending on the lottery, if your numbers do roll out of the drum, you could be splitting the jackpot quite a few ways.

Currently, the Lotto’s ‘hot’ numbers are:

54        – Drawn 55 times (13.85%)

8          – Drawn 50 times (12.59%)

58        – Drawn 50 times (12.59%)

52        – Drawn 49 times (12.34%)

41        – Drawn 47 times (11.84%)

11        – Drawn 47 times (11.84%)

Cold Numbers

Lottery statistics aren’t used to find just the most successful numbers. Some players instead go the other way and look for the numbers that have been drawn the least number of times. And of course, these numbers are known as ‘cold’ numbers.

Many players might view these numbers as unlucky and stay away from them. However, some focus on these numbers specifically, applying the law of averages to their decision – If all numbers are eventually going to be drawn an equal amount of times, then it’s more likely that it’ll be the least drawn numbers next.

Currently, the Lotto’s ‘cold’ numbers are:

33        – Drawn 26 times (6.55%)

28        – Drawn 29 times (7.30%)

21        – Drawn 31 times (7.81%)

50        – Drawn 31 times (7.81%)

24        – Drawn 32 times (8.06%)

57        – Drawn 32 times (8.06%)

Lottery Statistics – What’s New and What’s Due

Newly Drawn Numbers

Many players using lottery statistics would argue that the most recently drawn numbers are ones you should avoid the most. The logic here is, because these numbers have just been drawn, the odds of them being drawn again is much less likely than others – the chances of them being drawn once is small enough, but what’re the chances of them being drawn twice?

And so by that same logic, it’s the numbers that are most overdue to be drawn, that are thought to make an appearance soon. If you want to make sure you’re staying away from the most recently drawn numbers, then check out Results page.

Overdue Numbers

Some players like to use lottery statistics to identify the numbers that haven’t been drawn in a long time. These numbers are sometimes referred to as ‘overdue’ numbers.

Again, some players who apply the law of averages to their selection, believe that because these numbers haven’t been drawn in a very long time, they’re ‘due’ to show up soon.

Currently, the Lotto’s ‘overdue’ numbers are:

21        – Last drawn 332 days ago

59        – Last drawn 129 days ago

51        – Last drawn 97 days ago

1          – Last drawn 94 days ago

49        – Last drawn 80 days ago

46        – Last drawn 62 days ago

Regardless of what type of Lotto player you are, whether it’s luck, sentimentality, or lottery statistics you use to pick your numbers, everyone’s in with a chance to win big. Always stay up to date with the latest lottery results on our Lottery Results page.

How Many Numbers Are In The Lottery?

Lotteries have been a much-loved game for decades now, and most people have a basic understanding of how they work. But a lot of people don’t know how many numbers are in the lotteries they play. Every lottery game is unique and different, and some even have multiple ways to play. But how many numbers are actually in the lottery and how many do you need to pick?

How Many Numbers are in Lotto and Lotto Hotpicks?

Lotto is the UK’s favourite game and the primary lottery facilitated by Camelot. It is drawn twice a week on Saturdays and Wednesdays at 8:30 pm and was previously called “The National Lottery”.  Since the addition of other games, it has been rebranded as “Lotto”.

How Many Numbers are in EuroMillions and EuroMillions Hotpicks Lotteries?

First launched in 2004, EuroMillions is one of the most popular lotteries in the UK with draws every Tuesday and Friday at 20:45 CET.

In every EuroMillions draw, there are five main numbers drawn, as well as two Lucky Star numbers. Main numbers are drawn from a pool of 50, and Lucky Stars are drawn from a pool of 12. When you buy a ticket, you must choose five primary numbers and two lucky star numbers when purchasing a regular ticket. If you decide instead to buy a Hotpicks ticket, you instead will be tasked with choosing anywhere from 1 to 5 numbers depending on the type of ticket you purchase.

How Many Numbers are in Thunderball?

Similar to EuroMillions, Thunderball is another lottery that is very popular with players and has snowballed since its launch. It is drawn every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, giving you plenty of opportunities to win!

In each Thunderball draw, five main numbers are selected from a pool of 39. A single Thunderball is also select from a pool of 14.

Depending on which lottery, and how you play, you’ll have to pick a different amount of numbers for your ticket. But every draw within a single lottery brand will always have the same amount of numbers to choose.

What Happens When You Win The Lottery?

One of the most common questions lottery players ask is what happens when you win the lottery? Well, you’re in luck, because Andy Carter, the Senior Winners Advisor at Camelot has given his top tips to new lottery winners in a recent interview with Wales Online.

My lottery numbers have come up. Now what do I do?

The first step is to call the number on the back of your ticket and make your claim at the prize. The staff in the call center love receiving these calls and know exactly just how excited you will be. If you are lucky enough to win more than £50,000 your details are passed onto Andy and his team, and they will arrange to pay you a visit to help you organize the next steps.

What happens when we meet to claim my prize?

When Andy and his team arrive at your place after your big win, this is your big opportunity to ask any of the big questions. They will walk you through the next steps, help you with any paperwork that needs doing and help answer any questions they can. Some of the most common questions from new winners are:

How long until I get my lottery prize money?

It will take 48 hours for your winnings to transfer into your account.

Can I take my lottery winnings in cash?

Unfortunately, no, not with a win this big.

How long will Camelot be in contact and hold my hand?

That depends from winner to winner, some people want to be in contact for quite some time, others just take their money and are on their way. In general, the winners who choose to keep their identities private are more likely to be independent quicker. Winners who go public often help Andy and his team out as brand ambassadors. A few weeks later you’ll have another meeting with a lawyer, a financial expert and a Camelot representative. This is just to make sure everything is sorted out correctly. Andy’s team can also help put you in contact with other winners, often for new winners, talking to a past winner can help process all the things running through your mind as they have been there before.

Andy’s top tip for lottery winners is to open a private bank account, and have your winnings deposited into it. Most of the big banks have teams that specialize in dealing with wealthy customers and lotto winners. These specialty teams don’t share knowledge about customers with ordinary branch staff. This can help you stay anonymous should you wish too.

£1 Million Win Wind-Up

When Charlotte decided to place the last $1.50 in her account on a EuroMillions HotPicks, she wasn’t expecting to win £1,000,000! Only three weeks earlier Charlotte had pranked her husband into thinking they had won £250K on a Scratchcard. It comes as no surprise that husband Daniel thought it was another wind-up. That is until he saw the winning ticket for himself. The lucky couple now has £1 million to live mortgage-free, spend quality time with the family… and maybe some bigger pranks! This winning punchline earns Charlotte and Daniel a place on our list of funniest lottery winners stories.

Minutes to Millions

An Ossett man and his fiancé are now £1 million richer! The lucky winner had a free Lucky Dip from a previous draw and raced to the local store to play it in time. He made it with 2 minutes to spare and even had a kind shopper let him go ahead. As fate would have it, these precious moments led to the plasterer winning the Millionaire Raffle! Arron looks forward to reducing his intensive workload and spending more time with his children.

Milk… and a Million!

After a request from his wife to pop to the shop for a pint of milk, a 33-year old from Newcastle decided to grab a Scratchcard with his spare change. “I couldn’t actually believe it when I was looking at a scratchcard which was worth £1 million…I just screamed but I also felt numb”. Darren and his wife Kate celebrated the win and the life-changing scratchcard. Darren has two children with autism and is amazed at what this win will mean for his family. They hope to raise awareness of autism and the money means the young family can finally move to a bigger home and sensory room.

A well-deserved win that started with a dash for milk, places Darren, Kate, and their two children on our list of funniest lottery winners stories. Milk probably won’t be much of a hassle now!
