It may have been twelve years since this previous lucky winner had the winning Saturday Lotto numbers, but she recalls it like it was yesterday. Not only had she become an instant millionaire but she won the life-changing windfall on the anniversary of her father’s death.
Susan Crossland and her husband Michael from Mirfield won an incredible £1.2 Million back in 2009. The National Lottery recently caught up with the winners to talk about their win and how their life has changed since.
Winning Saturday Lotto numbers
She explained that she put her entry in for the Saturday Lotto draw like usual. That is, sitting around the telly while her husband was dozing behind the newspaper and Susan keeping busy with her knitting. Her entry always contained special numbers that her dad had played – a caring action, as her father had passed away. These numbers certainly were special, since they resulted in her winning £1.2 Million! Even more, this particular draw was also on the anniversary of her father’s passing and she believes that the winning Lotto numbers were ‘heaven sent’!
Where are they now?
In their catch up with officials, the couple shared that the winnings had been put to good use. In particular, they bought a purpose-built home to share with Susan’s siblings, who all require full time care.
“It’s meant we can always look after my brother and two sisters. I often feel like [my father] is looking down on us and I hope he thinks we are doing a good job of spending our win on the whole family.”The caring winner has also continued her craft of knitting and putting it to good use. She recently led a group of Yorkshire National Lottery winners in knitting hand muffs for elderly and vulnerable people.
Above all, Susan is grateful to have been able to enjoy life with her family. She shared that for her, “it’s about being together, being happy, and making memories.”
Congratulations again to the Saturday Lotto winner!
