It’s a dream many of us can only fantasize about – winning a lottery draw. However, every year there are hundreds of millionaires created. Winners often share their desires of buying homes, fancy cars, and helping family. But many lottery draw winners also give back to their communities. Many with an even more valuable asset – their time. Here are some recent stories of how National Lottery winners are giving back.

Cleaning up the beach

A team of 9 National Lottery draw winners from across the North West have taken to donating their time to clearing litter from the Wirral Coast. While these millionaires have a collective wealth of almost £20M, they aren’t afraid of getting their hands dirty. They collected over 20 sacks of waste from debris, plastics, bottles, and ocean waste.

They worked alongside The 2 Minute Foundation, a charity dedicated to cleaning up our planet 2 minutes at a time. The Foundation believes that simple, achievable acts can add up to make a great difference.

When asked why he chose to donate his time this way, millionaire Ben Woods from Wirral said, “It is something close to my heart as a father, to ensure our beaches are kept clean so everyone can enjoy them to their full potential. And it seems more appropriate than ever right now to be doing something like this in the year of the great British Staycation!”

Digging deep for youth with learning difficulties

Another team of 8 National Lottery winners from the North East of England spent a day supporting local charity, Ability Sports North East in Newcastle. They worked alongside youngsters to build picnic benches and flower beds, as well as planting a wildflower meadow and a fantastic vegetable garden.

The team collectively won prizes of nearly £10M. They were thrilled to work alongside the youth who will directly benefit from the initiative.

The charity were extremely grateful and noted, “These benches are a wonderful addition where the young people will be able to take time out to relax and enjoy their lunch in the sunshine. The vegetable garden is a fantastic addition too and will prove to be a vital resource – and providing an important education resource for all of our young people too!”

Building Mini Donks a bigger yard

Despite their tiny size, the mini donkeys at Miniature Donkeys for Wellbeing were in need of a bigger yard. Fortunately, a team of 11 National Lottery draw winners from the East of England were happy to help.

Miniature Donkeys for Wellbeing use their lovable ‘mini donks’ to boost the wellbeing of community group members, volunteers, and those in dementia or special needs groups. They were touched that the group, with a net worth of over £18M, donated their time to this cause.

“Demand for a Mini Donk visit is growing by the day, and so is our herd with the welcome addition of Little Jack Rabbit who was born on 1st August 2021. But no matter how miniature, our donkeys needed a bigger yard. Now thanks to these kind, hard-working winners, we have just that!”

Thanks to all the lottery draw winners making our world a better place!
