A couple from Chipping Norton are celebrating after their Lotto draw results revealed a £1 million win! After a challenging year, the winner is simply overjoyed and shared his story with lottery officials.
The winner purchased a ticket online in the Lotto draw on Saturday the 1 August 2020. They explained that David, the winner, plays online occasionally with numbers that are important to them. Fortunately, those special numbers were also the winning Saturday Lotto numbers!

It wasn’t until the early hours of Sunday morning that they learned the Lotto draw results. David’s wife, Shelley, mentioned that she initially was quite grumpy with her husband for waking her up.
“He told me we’d won the lottery. I was furious, I thought he meant a tenner!”
David was shaking as he showed his wife the latest Lotto results on his phone. It began to sink in that they may have won before she ran into her son’s bedroom for him to check as well. Shelley shared that it was indeed a sleepless night in their home and that they were relieved to confirm the win with officials.
How they plan to use the win
The English couple revealed that they had been going through a difficult time in recent months. Shelley was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2019, followed tragically by the loss of two family members. The couple is determined to remain positive but are also being cautious with their win. As hardworking people, they know the value of money and will take the time to make decisions regarding their winnings.
However, they divulged a few plans for their incredible windfall. A new car is top of the list for David. Meanwhile, Shelley is eager to travel to Canada once travel restrictions are relaxed. She explained how there are friends and family in Canada she had previously thought they would never be able to see in person.
“I’ve never even been on a plane or left the country before, it’s crazy to think the first time I do it will be First Class all the way!”
